MSIV Celebrates Five Years, Releases North Bay Startup Map

In April 2020, at the start of the pandemic, Marin Sonoma Impact Ventures quietly launched our efforts to build a more robust startup community across the North Bay. We set out to provide a home for Marin + Sonoma startup founders holding ambitions to build the next generation of great North Bay companies.
We are now five years into that journey and the local startup ecosystem in unrecognizable - in a good way. Here are some of our accomplishments to date:
MSIV’s North Bay Founder Network now supports 177 active Founder/CEOs of young startup companies based in Marin + Sonoma, and has cumulatively supported 301 local founders over the past five years.
MSIV’s Executive Network of 27 experienced C-level executives and former startup founders is providing free mentorship and advice to early-stage local companies.
MSIV fully deployed MSIV Fund I, a $6.6 million investment vehicle and the North Bay’s first regional venture capital fund, into 13 local startups since its late 2021 launch.
MSIV has been lauded in the local press including recent stories in the Marin IJ, NorthBay biz, Pacific Sun, and the North Bay Business Journal, and has won awards and commendations from the North Bay Leadership Council and the North Bay’s elected officials.
To celebrate how much the Marin + Sonoma startup community has grown this decade, we are excited to share this visual representation.
Embedded below you will find MSIV’s inaugural release of the North Bay Startup Map. Here is what the map includes:
100 North Bay startups mapped to their physical North Bay location. Some of these locations are traditional offices, some are tied to associated co-working spaces, and others have business conducted out of garages, homes, backyard sheds, and local coffee shops. Dots on the map are not meant to be precise locations but close to the vicinity of that company’s efforts.
15 co-working and social working spaces showing local hot spots where young companies and entrepreneurs are congregating.
This map is not an exhaustive list. We plan to publish updates a few times per year, and fully expect our next map will double in size. If you’d like your startup to be included in our first update, or wish to update your location, please fill out this form here for our review.
